Garnethill Convent of Mercy 1976 (Part 2)
Additional Information
Conversational interview. Begins with wide shot of elderly nun seated in a room with floral wallpaper and in front of what looks like a door. The camera zooms and pans left to reveal a second elderly nun. They are conversing and laughing with other people in the room who appear to be off camera. The tape cuts to black and starts again. This time the camera is zoomed in on the nun to the right, and the interview begins. Busby conducts the interview from directly behind the camera. The nuns talk about their lives, growing up in Glasgow, the history of the Convent, and engage in singing old hymns and songs circa World War 2. There is some interruption from behind the camera, an open window that allows the sounds of trucks and children playing in. A pan around the room reveals 2 other nuns in different-style habits (convent attire). They are religious women of colour visiting and staying with the Convent. These women join in the conversation and singing. The film is done mostly in one continuous shot with pans and zooms, allotting for two drops in tracking that cuts out the picture and sound. There is a slight white-noise hum to the entire film, though not detracting from the conversation. After the second tracking cut at 44 min, 02 sec, the footage ends mid-sentence with footage of the elderly nun from the first Covent of Mercy film (TE2/1976/50).
